Summer’s

Luscious

Party

July 12 - 26 | 306 Wall Street | Kingston NY

A group exhibition about how visual artists living in the Hudson Valley use the inherent textures of their surroundings to explore personal or cultural connections with the natural world. Participating artists include Justin Cooper (Kingston/Catskill, NY), Melissa Dadourian (Hudson Valley), Roger Hauer (Beacon, NY), Kate Minford (Saugerties, NY), Marcie Paper (Hudson Valley), and John Richey (Kingston/Brooklyn, NY).

Using a variety of materials and processes, this diverse collection of artworks embody a distinctive regional vibe; telling the story of unique personal collections, a connection to organic materials, and a legacy of image making. Thematic throughlines reference and embrace the natural world; a slower pace and affinity to local communities; pre-industrial styles of labour, hand-made objects, a rural DIY aesthetic, integration of found or salvaged material; repetition and ritual.

With a combination of rough and refined aesthetics, Summer's Luscious Party includes traditional pen and ink illustrations with a contemporary-Queer slant, mystical mixed-media works on paper, hand-painted wall murals, textile-based interventions, and whimsical ready-made sculptures.
